Take Home a Rescue Cat

Always adopt, never buy

When you adopt instead of buy, you’re not just bringing home a companion — you’re taking a stand against a system that leaves too many cats without homes. Every kitten born to a breeder is one less home available for a cat already waiting in a shelter or foster network, fighting for a chance at the life they deserve. At Pookie’s Place, every cat has already overcome something — whether that’s a rough start, a medical hurdle, or simply the heartbreak of being overlooked — and every adoption is proof that their story doesn’t end there. Choosing rescue means choosing compassion over convenience, and it means one more life saved because you decided to make a difference.

Might be your friend

Somewhere in the faces below is a cat who’s already waiting for you, even if they don’t know it yet. Maybe it’s the shy one who just needs someone patient enough to earn their trust, or the goofball who greets every visitor like an old friend. Take your time, look through their stories, and pay attention to the ones that catch your eye more than once — that’s usually a sign. Every cat here is ready to give their whole heart to the right person; all that’s missing is you.

Take Home A Rescue Cat

Every cat available for adoption through Pookie’s Place has a story that started long before you ever saw their photo. Some were found as tiny kittens, too young to survive on their own. Some were surrendered by families who could no longer care for them. Others were rescued from situations no cat should ever have to endure. What they all have in common is this: someone noticed, someone stepped in, and someone gave them a second chance. Now we’re asking you to be the one who gives them their forever chance.

Because Pookie’s Place operates entirely through a foster-based network rather than a physical shelter, every cat in our care spends their days in a real home rather than a cage. That means the cat you meet has already been living with a family who knows their personality inside and out — their favorite toys, whether they’re a lap cat or an independent soul, how they do with kids or other pets. When you adopt, you’re not just getting a cat; you’re getting an honest, detailed picture of who that cat truly is, so you can find the one who genuinely fits your life.

Every cat we place has also already been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed before they ever go home with you. That’s a significant head start most people don’t get when they buy from a breeder or take in a cat off the street, and it’s reflected in our adoption fees — $75 for kittens and $100 for adult cats — which barely scratch the surface of what that veterinary care actually costs. Your adoption fee also includes a bag of food to help ease the transition, because we want your new cat’s first days with you to be as smooth as possible.

But the deeper truth is this: adopting a rescue cat is about more than bringing home a pet. It’s about honoring the second chance that cat has already been given, and extending it into a lifetime. It’s about knowing that somewhere, a foster family loved that cat enough to prepare them for exactly this moment — the moment they meet you. Pookie’s Place exists because we believe every cat deserves that chance, no matter their age, their history, or how long they’ve had to wait. When you take home a rescue cat, you’re not just adding a companion to your household. You’re closing the gap between a hard beginning and a happy ending, and giving a deserving cat the home they’ve been waiting for all along.
