Ready to bring a cat home? Start by browsing our available cats — when you find one who catches your eye, just click the application link on their page (or reach out to us directly) to get the process started. From there, we'll walk you through it together: a quick application, a chat about your home and lifestyle to make sure it's the right fit, and then we'll set up a meet-and-greet. Once everything lines up, your new best friend comes home with a full health record and our support anytime you need it. Adopting shouldn't be complicated — we're here to help every step of the way.

Yes — because we want every adoption to be a lifelong match, we do ask our adopters to commit to a few things. Every cat comes to you already spayed or neutered and microchipped, so you can start your life together on the right foot. From there, we ask that cats be kept as indoor-only pets, with outdoor time limited to a secure, enclosed catio for short supervised periods, and that they never be declawed — this applies to any other cats already in your home as well. Adopters agree to provide annual vet checkups, keep up with vaccinations recommended by their veterinarian and required by law, and seek veterinary care promptly whenever their cat is sick or injured. If you have other pets at home, they should be spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, and generally cat-friendly, so the whole household can adjust smoothly. Renters will need to show proof that their landlord or lease allows pets. Our standard adoption fee is $100 (fees may vary by cat) and helps cover the cost of vetting, food, and care while they were in foster. And if life ever changes and the adoption doesn't work out, we ask that the cat be returned to us rather than rehomed elsewhere or surrendered to a shelter — once a Pookie's Place cat, always a Pookie's Place cat, and we'll always take them back.

The cutest face isn't always the best match — and that's okay, because our foster families know these cats inside and out. Before you fall in love with a photo, think honestly about your lifestyle: Do you have the time for a playful kitten, or would a mellow senior cat fit your home better? Do you have other pets or young kids who need a specific temperament? Talk to the foster parent — they can tell you about litter box habits, energy level, and personality quirks that never show up in a photo. The right match isn't about picking the prettiest cat; it's about picking the cat whose needs and personality actually fit your life.

Every cat that comes through Pookie's Place is examined and treated by our veterinary partners at Liberty Hill Animal Hospital before they're ever listed for adoption. That means vaccines, spay/neuter, and treatment for any medical issues we find along the way — because as a foster-based rescue, nothing is hidden behind shelter walls; we see every cat's health journey up close. Some cats need more medical care than others (and we're always upfront about that), but every cat is adopted out as healthy as we can possibly make them, with full records to hand off to your regular vet.
